TRT - Day 8

Sunglasses

Look. You don't need to wear them in the subway. It's dark in there. Really dark. Wearing them in the subway is a statement, and, IMHO, cowardly.

Essentially, you're saying: "Not only do I not want to meet your glance, but I might want to stare at you without you knowing. I'm cooler than you, and if you don't see my eyes, you can't see me at all! Nyah, nyah.."

You don't have to meet my eyes, it's ok. I know I might follow you home and kill you if you do, and you're worried. But a little smile never hurt anyone. A smirk, yes. A leer, definitely. But learn the difference and you'll be a much happier person.

In other news, people from my home town who have relocated here are lovely and friendly, as are random people who introduce me to supercool bookstores and theatre! :)

You have such a good perspective on everything.

Did you move to Israel?

Thanks for your comments. We are back, and I have posted on my blog about our trip. I can't sleep from the jet lag.

BTW: Do you have any places where I can learn more on gogomogog? I know it is Kabbalistic!

Speaking of sunglasses, I haven't had a decent pair in years, and I could really use some for the rare times when I'm out in broad daylight.

And you're welcome. ;-)

Defen, defen...hmm - so was it you on the train with me? And you didn't say hi? Tsk tsk.

Barb - No, I wish wish wish I did, though...Israel is where I should be...I'll go check your blog and live vicariously through your trip ;)

I don't know much about Gog U'magog - and I'm certainly not a Kabbalist! From what I understand, it's some kind of war (might be physical, might be spiritual, probably a bit of both) that will happen in the time of the Messiah that will upheave the world somehow...no worries! All I know for certain is that it heralds Messianic days.

Scraps - That's the problem with wearing glasses, when I do - I can't wear sunglasses even when it actually is sunny!

Can you get the kind that clip on to your regular glasses? I know they look dorky, but they would do the trick. Or wear contacts on sunny days.

Nope, wasn't me. I haven't done it in a while. But then, I'm sure you'd recognize me if you saw me. ;-)

Scraps - A good idea, but I can never find the ones that fit my glasses. I always wanted to get the graduated ones that change...but then again, when I wear contacts I can wear sunglasses - outside!!

Defen - The Kindred Spirit spark would guide me ;)

TRW - rest assured, I look exactly like the photo in my profile. All blurred. ;-)

TRW said...

Well that'll make you easy to spot! ;)

By the way, I saw a guy on the train last night wearing sunglasses and I thought of you. ;-)

Scraps - :)

Photochick - Never fear. My glasses just snapped in half, so I'll be wearing contacts (and regular sunglasses - but NOT in the subway!) for a while...

...and I like the Inferno reference! It's an excellent comparison...same kinds of people, too...;)

The last time I was on the subway, I couldn't help but laugh - you look around at a car jampacked with people, and we couldn't possibly be more oblivious to each other's existence. iPods are the real culprits, but sunglasses, hooded sweatshirts - whatever, it seems, that will shut our eyes and ears to the rest of the world. Its crazy!

TRW said...

Pimples - Thanks?

Jessica - It's a bit scary...I always think of one of those wacky scifi movies where people are totally hooked up to wires which send commands directly to the brain when I see the IPods...although I wouldn't deny one if someone offered it to me ;)

Leati - So you do have social issues, dear? I would have never guessed!

No comment about your second comment.

Mitvuch - The difference between theatre and theater is that the first is a cultural experience where the actors are on stage in front of you. A theater is where one would hypothetically go to watch movies. I much prefer the theatre (then again, I'm kinda partial to Brits, too ;) )

One of my friends calls iPods "The Cult of the White Earbud". :-P
