On the Star-K thing...

Since everyone feels the need to voice their opinions, I just want to mention that, regardless of how you feel about it, the Star-K took a problem that everyone complained about and offered a solution. Until I hear someone offer a better alternative, I don't think anyone has a right to complain.
Besides...it works. I was out of town for Shabbos, and apparantly lots of people know about it and are veeeery interested...money talks...louder than anything else, unfortunately

Hey, I'm with you on this one. While some people may say it makes a "spiritual matter" more mercenary, or make other such vapid statements, I personally agree that it's a matter of hishtadlus, of not just sitting around wringing your hands and blogging about how horrible the system is, but trying to work with it.

As for the fact that money speaks louder than anything else, yes, it's a bit pathetic, but at the same time, Hashem created us like that, to some degree. Even the biggest chachamim of every dor were prohibited from taking bribes, because it would blind him from the truth. And to use such a powerful weapon in order to try to fix a problem that is causing tzaar in klal Yisroel--I applaud the star-K for taking such a strong stance of hishtadlus on something that could be misconstrued (as has obviously been done).

What exactly are people saying AGAINST it? Seems like it can't hurt, if someone's willing to sponser money for it, right?

And that is rather frightening...why do they feel the need to drag up everything about the frum community and portray it like we're out-of-date fanatics?? Grr..
